On Wednesday May 15, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) introduced an exciting opportunity for those passionate about protecting the environment: the Blue Visa. Individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental conservation are eligible for this special visa, which provides a 10-year resident period.

So, what exactly is required to qualify for this visa? 

The blue visa is part of the UAE’s commitment to sustainability, in line with their long-standing commitment to becoming more environmentally friendly. This is a way to recognize and support efforts that make the country a greener, more sustainable place to live. 

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai also emphasizes that looking after the environment is really important for our economy, and the UAE is serious about that.

To be eligible for the Blue Visa, you must have:

  1. Supported environmental initiatives in the UAE or globally.
  2. Made extraordinary contributions to protecting the environment, especially in areas like marine life, land ecosystems, air quality, or sustainable technologies.
  3. Been affiliated with international organizations or companies that have positively impacted the environment.
  4. Been a member of associations or non-governmental organizations dedicated to environmental causes.
  5. Received global awards for environmental achievements.
  6. Demonstrated significant activism or research in environmental conservation, whether you’re a UAE national or a resident committed to protecting the environment.

How should I apply? 

Applying for the Blue Residency Visa is super easy. Interested individuals can submit their applications through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Additionally, reputable authorities within the environmental sector may nominate deserving candidates.
