Young Emiratis Chosen as Muezzins in Dubai’s Ramadan Campaign
Excitement fills Dubai as young Emiratis take on the role of muezzins, announcing prayers during Ramadan. Kids aged 6 to 16 from various Dubai neighborhoods learn to recite the Azan in a special program called Muezzin Al Farij.
The initiative was started in 2023 by the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai. Its goal is to make Emirati children stronger in their identity and faith. Over 300 young Emiratis joined in.
The process is simple: participants record a 20-minute clip of the call to prayer (Azan) without any changes, with a guardian present. These recordings are then evaluated, and winners from each neighborhood are chosen through careful public voting.
Participants are getting recognized for their efforts, and even Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, is supporting both young and adult muezzins.
The viral videos of the participants’ performances have encouraged mothers to enroll their sons in this noble cause.
