New Travel Rules for Umrah and Haj in UAE
People traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah or Haj may need a new shot…
The UAE has made it mandatory for pilgrims heading to Saudi Arabia for Umrah and Hajj to get flu shots. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) stated that travelers must show proof of influenza vaccination starting from March 26. This is to help keep everyone healthy during these religious trips.
However, there’s confusion among Umrah and Hajj tour operators and residents about the new rule. As of now, no one has been asked for vaccination cards or any related documents by travel agencies.
For travelers who are scheduled for Umrah on March 31, the new rule presents a challenge. Since the vaccine should be taken ten days before travel, they’re concerned about the timing.
The Ministry clarified that those who received the flu vaccine within the past year are exempt. Approved vaccination cards can be obtained through the Al Hosn app and shown at travel checkpoints.
However, there are still questions about how the rule will apply to those on multiple-entry tourist visas, commonly used by Umrah travelers. Some travel agencies haven’t seen any enforcement yet and are waiting for more details.
Even Saudia airlines hasn’t received clear instructions from UAE immigration regarding the new requirement.
So, people with upcoming trips are advised to get the flu shot to be safe. They can get a vaccine card on a phone app to show at travel checkpoints.
